Dear BAPS members and friends,
I'm sure you have been following the news on the cyclone
disaster in Burma. The latest estimates put
the death toll at 40000 with over 100000 people still missing.
Some villages have been completely eradicated
and up to 1 million people are rendered homeless and without basic
supplies and water.
In fact, the aftermath of the storm may be more devastating the
storm itself.
Now is the time for the Burmese community in the US to come together
and help the victims of the disaster as
soon as possible. BAPS is raising donations which will be directed
to an international aid organization
that's directly helping the storm victims in Burma.
We hope that we can count on you to help. Considering that an
average Burmese survives on less than $2 a day, no donation is
too small, but please send the most generous gift you can.
We promise the following for your donation:
1. 100% of your donation will go to the neediest Burmese people.
2. We will use our family and friends to buy local supplies
at the best prices.
3. We will personally distribute the supplies or use trusted
local Burmese family, friends
and colleagues.
4. We will be completely transparent in the use of your donation.
The B.K. Kee Foundation, a private, family
foundation, intends to match donations to CABA for relief efforts
up to a maximum amount of $100,000. The B.K. Kee Foundation’s
mission is to provide humanitarian aid, primarily in health and
education, to all people of Burma. The Foundation seeks to advance
this mission by: (1) acting as a catalyst for self-sustaining
programs, (2) emphasizing direct or local support and/or partnerships
with, or grants to, organizations with minimal administrative
cost structures, (3) not considering political, economic, or religious
interests in assessing the people’s needs, and (4) identifying
and concentrating on needs and projects that have historically
not been the focus of other charities. Please the B.K. Kee Foundation
